Art is an indispensable entity in the human life. It keeps
people sane and brings out the imagination of the primate brains we possess.
While some people may not consider art as a significant abstract but if you
think logically, everything that human kind has created consists of shape,
purpose and requires the skill of innovation and imagination which is the exact
definition of art. So, even though art is underrated it is still the reason of
our evolution.
Art has been a part of humanity since the ancient
civilizations when human kind’s greatest discovery was fire. In order to
express an incident or describe an interesting object/living thing, one had to
draw it because the literature at that time wasn’t diverse as it is today. It
became an essential practice by our ancestors which was passed down to our next
generation and so on. People started with drawings on the cave walls with
stones and it slowly started taking shape as the art of today. Since then, this
planet has witnessed many generations of different cultures with different
representation of art and its forms.
Since the ancient times, the waves of artists and the art
have developed extensively giving birth to many different art forms. One of the
significant revolutions in this artistic legacy was the African American Art in the 19th century which not only
introduced a race of artists but the way it came into being. Black art was born when the African
Americans were captives in the USA. The Slaves were compelled to create artifacts for living, various objects
like iron pieces, ceramics, duvets and silver were prepared on the daily basis.
A lot of Slave owners offered African Americans to sell the crafts and keep all
the profits for the ones they made in their free time.
Some of the
more Humane families provided private tutoring to their slaves and encouraged
them to Opt art professionally, it lead to the rise in the African American Art
and bestowed the early Black artists
like Robert M. Douglas Jr. and Joshua Johnson. When the civil war ended the
slavery was abolished completely which provided opportunity for the black art
to be displayed in the art museums. However, the art did not gain much
popularity in the United States for a long period but was noticed instantly in
the European countries and was displayed in most of the art museum in Europe. A
lot of black art work is being displayed in museums across the planet and even
the white house. A painting called Sand Dunes at Sunset, Atlantic City by Henry
Ossawa Tanner hangs in the green room of the white house.
